About Kristyn

I have always felt at home in the kitchen. From getting sick from eating too many chocolate cookies with my sister to creating multi-course ethnic dinners for my family to making tamales with my grandmother, many of my early memories took place in our yellow kitchen on Long Island. And when I wasn’t cooking, I was either sewing, playing the piano, or coming up with a new design concept for my room.

I went off to school and studied Art History and gained an appreciation for art I still have to this day. Following graduation, I fell into a career at a law firm in New York. After several years, it suddenly dawned on me; the part of my job I most enjoyed wasn’t part of my job at all. Every day, I looked forward to creating cakes and other goodies for office celebrations.

Shortly after this revelation, I began studying pastry design at Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts in Rhode Island. I continued my training while working at several Boston area hotels and caterers, including The Ritz-Carlton. It was during these years that I discovered my love and talent for cake decorating and the idea for Quintessentially Cakes by Kristyn was born. Quintessentially Cakes gives me the perfect opportunity to combine my life-long loves of baking, art, artistry, and design with my desire to create delicious and memorable cakes for the special events in my clients’ lives.
